help save a neighborhood landmark of goodies and hospitality

In New York, a charming and very cherished English tea, cakes and biscuit place, is asking for everyone’s help to stay their presence in the West Village.

27 years ago just about this time, in fact, two days before Christmas, Nicky Perry opened Tea and Sympathy to serve traditional British comfort food for Brits away from home, and introduce New Yorkers to English tea and the many charming delights. CBS named Tea and Sympathy one of the top five places for afternoon tea in New York.

“This is more English than the English,” Mr. Hadden-Paton, best known for playing Bertie Pelham on Downton Abbey, said at Tea and Sympathy, where he ordered a pot of Earl Grey; as reported by the New York Times.

Nicky is the go-to person for the best brandied Christmas fruit cake. Her next door venture Carry On Tea and Sympathy also offers the dearly missed British goodies such as shepherd’s pies, Smarties and Roundtree’s. In order to continue with this tradition, Nicky Perry is in need of a modest sum that if we all chip in, should carry her over this particular difficult time.

Despite the gentrification of the West Village-Meat Packing neighborhood, Tea and Sympathy has stood the test of time, and up to now, remains a one-of-a-kind neighborhood landmark of hospitality.

In the spirit of Christmas, wherever you are, join me in sharing this news, and do what you can to support Nicky’s business in a time of need!
