I lolled by the beach at Club Med, let the moist sea breeze cleaned off the dryness and dust from Douz. Watching the east sky, onlooking the turquoise sea, I let minutes and hours sail adrift.

To Douz we came from Djerba which is a resort island reached by direct flight from England. So eager to get to Douz, we didn’t bother ourselves to have a look around the city of Djerba. We proceeded right away with our car northward, granted it was already midnight.

Tick-tock, tick-tock, the darkening night blue from the east sky, was pressing down on the deepening red sun westward below the horizon.Eight o’clock in the evening, the moon was as bright as the sun. In this silver glistening wilderness, we were again the only beings moving, the only living breathing.

“Oh, it is cold.” We had stopped descending but where the water stopped? “How far am I from the sea bottom?” I couldn’t tell as I couldn’t see any trace of it. Despite the blindingly bright daylight above, the underwater was gloomy and lifeless, like a graveyard at dusk.
