I n 2014, when the Evo Yachts brand was created, tilting bulwarks looked more like a gadget than anything else. With its “R Line” range, the Italian brand quickly developed an extendable bulwark system that would greatly contribute to making this technology more reliable. Today, the R4 is available in three versions and the walkaround model continues to play the spearhead. Unlike the tilting bulwark systems adopted by many manufacturers, Evo has remained faithful to its “XTension” system, which increases the space available on board while maintaining the protection of the hulls. The boat is also equipped with an articulated rear platform, which acts as both an access gangway and a launching system for the tender.

Well, you actually can. The Evo Yachts R4 has a hydraulics system that can pop out the hullsides and deploy a second-level swim platform (there’s also a rotating platform available) to provide 270 square feet of, errr... fishing territory. We’re not sure you’d want to make this transformation on a rough day and doing so while trolling seems out of the question, but if you insist on lots of elbow room while bottom fishing, a $1.3 million listing doesn’t phase you, and Transformers is your favorite movie ever, this could be the ticket.

Equipped with a pair of Volvo Penta IPS950s (2 x 725 hp), it reaches 33 knots at maximum speed. On the main deck, comfort is the name of the game, with a swim platform, a solarium, a saloon and, at the very front, sunbathing mattresses. The lower deck is no less generous in terms of space: three cabins including a master, the galley, a saloon and a crew cabin. Its programme includes long-term family cruising.

In just 30 seconds, the rear section splays out both sideways and rearward to create a sun deck with a “beach area”: a platform that adds an extra meter in length to the boat when extended, but can also be lowered to 80 centimeters below the sea’s surface, making it easier to get in and out of the waves. And if the sun doesn’t shine, there’s a removable aluminum hard-top, too.
